It is written that a serpent of light surrounds the Earth. Is this the Milky Way? Born of a giantess and
deceitful illusion, the serpent that surrounds the Earth! To be slain by the voice of thunder in the end of
days, as its conquerer shall take but steps times nine before the serpent's venom takes its toll! And yet, it
is written that by craft the serpent can be and must be slain! How can you slay the dragon that is
'everywhere and is everything'? A dragon so vast and powerful that if you saw him whole in a single
glance, you would cease to exist! The dragon whose 'scales glisten in the bark of trees and whose voice
can be heard on the wind, and whose forked tongue strikes like lightning!' Indeed, why slay the serpent at
all? Do you know what the Old Serpent really is? Know this well, for without such knowledge, the virtue of
the Stone is lost!
"The (first) living being had no need of eyes when there was nothing remaining outside him to be seen;
nor of ears when there was nothing to be heard; and there was no surrounding atmosphere to be
breathed; nor would there have been any use of organs by the help of which he might receive his food or
get rid of what he had already digested, since there was nothing which went from him or came into him:
for there was nothing beside him. Of design he was created thus, his own waste providing his own food,
and all that he did or suffered taking place in and by himself. For the Creator conceived that a being
which was self-sufficient would be far more excellent than one which lacked anything; and, as he had no
need to take anything or defend himself against any one, the Creator did not think it necessary to bestow
upon him hands: nor had he any need of feet, nor of the whole apparatus of walking; but the movement
suited to his spherical form was assigned to him, being of all the seven that which is most appropriate to
mind and intelligence; and he was made to move in the same manner and on the same spot, within his
own limits revolving in a circle. All the other six motions were taken away from him, and he was made not
to partake of their deviations. And as this circular movement required no feet, the Universe was created
without legs and without feet." Plato.
Behold the green serpent! Behold the Oroborus! The serpent who bites its own tail and rolls along the
ground like a wheel, thus to go hither and thither at greater speed. Revolving, revolving ... . When will the
serpent end? See how it constantly devours itself, and yet it does not die! It eats the oldest part of itself
first of all, but forever grows as it does so, and so it neither shortens nor lengthens! Neither does it grow
old. Nor does it need any more sustenance, for all that it is came from within itself and returns to within
Yet, there is fire in the dragon's belly! Fire that could burn you to cinders! There is fire in its eyes, fire
that could blind you!
There is venom in the serpent too! As in the end of days, that venom will slay the hero who slays the
serpent! How then can the battle be won? To slay the serpent is to destroy the whole of Creation! As fire
and water must meet, so the dragon entwines about the crystal and the wirm gnaws at the roots of the
Tree! So night and day embrace in endless dance, or is it an endless battle? Can one exist without the
other? The Sun and Moon do dance as one leads to the other. As summer and winter do embrace, time
after time. The Serpent of Chaos was slain by the Hand of Light and yet the Light descended into the
Know this then well: the serpent, only by craft can be slain!
Behold, there is light in the leaves of the trees, there is a fire in the cells of all that lives! Indeed, there is a
hidden Light in all things, snap a twig, and it will be there! For inside the head of the dragon is yet the
most precious jewel, a gemstone of Dragonite!
So it is that the Stone appears at first in a garb defiled!
"The Kingdom of Heaven is not a place. Nobody can point to it ans say, 'Look! There it is!' For the
Kingdom of Heaven is within you."
"The Kingdom of Heaven is within and without. It clothes the surface of the Earth, but few can see it."
So it is that Maya, the Serpent is, by craft, slain! But nothing really dies. Saturn's child is transmuted by
reaction, as sulphur reacts with mercury ...
